Chafing is a common skin problem caused by any combination of friction, moisture, and irritating fabric. Prolonged rubbing on the skin makes your skin sting or burn, and you develop a mild, red rash. In severe cases, chafing will include swelling, bleeding, or crusting.

You’re more likely to develop chafing on body parts that rub against each other or your clothing. Chafing commonly occurs on the thighs and buttocks. The nipples, groin, feet, and armpits can also chafe.

Signs And Symptoms Of Chafing

Chafing is often characterized by the onset of skin rashes. These rashes can be:

  • Itchy
  • Red and inflamed
  • Burning or stinging

More severe cases of chafing may cause your skin to:

  • Swell
  • Crust
  • Bleed

Home Remedy For Chafing

1. Aloe Vera Gel
Ingredients

1 tablespoon of aloe Vera gel

What You Have To Do
  1. Take an aloe Vera leaf and extract a tablespoon of gel from it.
  2. Apply the gel evenly to the chafed skin and leave it on for about 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. Wash with water.

2. Olive Oil

1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil

What You Have To Do
  1. Take some virgin olive oil in your palms.
  2. Gently massage it into the affected area.
  3. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash it off.
  4. You can also apply olive oil to the affected area at night, before going to sleep.

3. Essential Oils

a. Tea Tree Oil

Ingredients

  • 6 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
What You Have To Do
  1. Mix six drops of tea tree oil with a teaspoon of coconut oil.
  2. Apply this concoction to the affected area.
  3. Leave it on until it dries on its own.
  4. Reapply as required.

b. Calendula Oil

  • 7 drops of calendula oil
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (or any other carrier oil)
What You Have To Do
  1. Add seven drops of calendula oil to a teaspoon of any carrier oil.
  2. Mix well and apply it to the affected skin.
  3. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse off with water.
  4. You can also allow it to evaporate naturally.
  5. Repeat this multiple times in a day.

4. Vaseline

Ingredients

Vaseline or petroleum jelly (as required)

What You Have To Do
  1. Take a little Vaseline and apply it to the affected area.
  2. Reapply as necessary.

Vaseline keeps your skin well moisturized. It also forms a protective layer on the skin and prevents further infection in the affected area
