1. Onion
That powerful smell can do more than just flavor a meal. Onions are full of sulfur, an antiseptic, and vitamin C that acts as a natural skin lightener. Try not to tear up, but rub a slice of onion to your skin to start reducing the appearance of age spots.

 


2. Lemon juice
Lemons play a major part in beauty treatments, including age spots. Lemon juice contains rejuvenating antioxidants, and essentially acts as a bleach against dark spots. How does this work? Vitamin C in lemons blocks tyrosinase, an enzyme which is important in pigment production.
Apply a slice of lemon directly to the skin for 15 minutes twice a day. If you have sensitive skin, dilute lemon juice in water or rose water. Expect results within two months, and try to avoid the sun after application.

3. Aloe vera
We know that aloe vera gel is amazing for sunburns and keeping your skin hydrated, but it’s also great for treating age spots and redness. Aloe vera can actually replace old dead skin cells and replace them with new healthy cells. Apply aloe vera juice or gel directly to spots for 30 minutes twice day and start to see rejuvenated skin in about a month.

 


4. Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that’s sure to rid dark spots. Just mix equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and whole milk and apply to dark spots with cotton pad. Let sit 15 minutes then rinse. It’s a good idea to patch test for sensitivity before doing a full application.

 

5. Parsley
Parsley is well-known in the beauty world for its skin lightening properties, making it great for dark spots and discolored skin. Try out this recipe using only three ingredients for treating age spots:

1 cup chopped parsley
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon yogurt
Combine ingredients. Apply mask to face, neck and chest for 15 minutes then rinse. Repeat twice a week.

6. Turmeric

2 tablespoons rice water
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon turmeric

Simply apply directly to spots, leave on for a few minutes, and then rinse. If your skin is oily or acne-prone, add a little lemon or lime juice to the mixture to avoid over moisturizing. And if you don’t have buttermilk on hand, yogurt works just as well.

 


8. Apple cider vinegar
Here, again, is another excellent use for apple cider vinegar. It works by safely drying out the skin to fade spots. You can either drink a glass of water with a few drops of vinegar or dilute with water for direct application to skin. You can also mix a few drops of lemon juice with the vinegar or mix 2 to 3 spoons of orange juice with a half spoon of vinegar. If you have dry skin, mix with olive oil.

 

9. Castor oil
Castor oil has many beauty benefits, including healing and lightening our skin. Rub a little oil on the spots once in the morning and once in the evening and you’ll start to see results in about a month.

 

10. Papaya
This tropical fruit has plenty of benefits for our skin. Papaya contains certain enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids that work to remove blemishes, reduce age spots, and even treat acne. You can either place a slice or mash of green papaya on your spots, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then rinse.

 

11. Sandalwood
This anti-aging agent is an antiseptic that can reduce hyper-pigmentation. Simply rub a few drops of sandalwood oil mixed in one tablespoon of olive oil or almond oil each night before going to bed and leave on overnight.

 

12. Horseradish
This herb contains both vitamin C, which slows the production of melanin, and glucosinolates (presumed to lower risk of cancer), which increases circulation and flushes waste from the body. For a quick recipe, apply a horseradish paste on the skin for 15 minutes and rinse, a few times a week to combat those spots.
For more problematic spots, grate one piece of horseradish 4-5 inches long and combine with a half cup of apple cider vinegar, and then place in a glass jar. Mix well and leave for 2 weeks, shaking the mixture once a day. After two weeks, apply to your spots three times a day for one month. Refrigerate the mixture.

 

13. Garbanzo beans
Garbanzo beans are great for lightening the skin. Make a mash with a whole can of chickpeas with 1/3 of water, and apply the paste to spots. Gently rinse with warm water and repeat every day. If you have tahini on hand, add 1/4 cup tahini to the mixture in a food processor.
